Whether you’re hiring employees, deciding on a designer for your new logo, getting married or (like in our case) deciding who to partner with on the development front there are some guidelines you can follow.
We’re proud of our partnership with the folks over at The Van Aken District. And we want to tell you why.
GOOD PARTNERS (for us)
have shared values
aren’t perfect, and don’t require it of each other
practice kind communication
exercise transparency and honesty
talk about the hard stuff in a kind way
have shared goals (helps to get that clearly defined if possible)
have complimentary skill sets
let each other be experts + stay in their own lane
realize that businesses are run by humans and don’t treat people like businesses
love the fact that we’re highly creative and kinda different
trust our creative judgement
let us experiment and be creative
pay us what we ask
negotiate to get to deals that are better for each of us
Our partnership with The Van Aken District is broken into 3 parts:
Market Consulting for 1 year
A set of Night Markets during the Summer
A cool new space inside the market that will help to activate and bring energy to the district in an on-brand way + directing some interior design / furniture projects that liven up the space in ways that they would like
It took a few months of planning and negotiating to get our partnership in place. It took us partnering with them last Fall for 2 Sunday Markets to get a feel for each other. It took lawyers helping us create a contract that would make sense for us all.
And mostly it took the coming together of a few humans to decide that all the work and negotiations were worth it. We couldn’t be happier to be spending a year with these friends of ours.
Look for an exciting announcement coming next week regarding our space within the VAD Market Hall.
And find those quality partnerships. They don’t come around every day, but they’re totally worth it.
