You come to the Flea every month. (Thank you for that!)
You eat the bagels, scour the booths and eventually score the perfect side table, buy a t-shirt for your friend/sibling/parent/boss/babysitter, and stop by the bar for a cocktail--every month. You support the makers, the finders, the food trucks, the whole lot of them. (Again… always… thank you!)
You give your dollar at the door and/or pick up some Team Flea merch on the way out. (Thank you.)
And every month, when you get home, you look at that dining room table that hasn’t seen a meal in months because it is your workstation, your studio, piled high with materials, sketches, prototypes, clippings, plans, and dreams. You wonder if you can do it. If you can join the ranks of those dressed up carnival kids who seem so happy--yes, maybe chilly and damp or sun-baked and sweaty, and tired, definitely tired, but happy. You wonder if your application would be accepted, if your product would sell. Could you make this hobby a side hustle or even a full-time, quit-your-day-job hustle?
Your friends say yes; they’ve already tagged you in three of our “applications are open” posts. Your mom says yes, and insists she isn’t just being a supportive mom. Your spouse says yes, begging you to get moving or move all that damn stuff off the table.
But you’re just not sure if you should apply or not.
Well, I’m here to tell you that if you were shaking your head along to all that chatty copy up there, then yes! You should probably apply!
And even if you’ve never been to the Flea--maybe because your Saturdays are your lock-myself-in-the-basement (or garage) and work-on-my-project days--then you might still be a great fit.
You might be the person we’ve been looking for with the products, or food, or vintage collection our shoppers have been asking about.
But there’s something holding you back and we recognize and respect that. Maybe you have questions about how we operate and how we analyze applications. Maybe you don’t even know what our 2016 dates are or if you can get those days off work. Maybe you can make a perfect hot pretzel but can’t take a product photo to save your life. Maybe you are waiting on us to announce booth fees.
The good news is that we’ll be at Mahall’s on Tuesday, January 19th presenting some general “how to be a vendor information” and fielding whatever questions you have. We’ll review the application, tell you what we prioritize, and review some basic business types we look for and others that don’t seem to be the best fit.
This event is free and we only ask that you register so we know how many of you lovely, eager folks to prep for.
If you can’t make our Tuesday night event, all of the information we’re presenting will show up here on the blog the following day!
